The South Australian Government’s solar hot water rebate scheme is targeted towards low income households to help them comply with new water heater performance standards effective from 1 July, 2008. The scheme provides a rebate of $500 towards the cost of a new, eligible solar or heat pump water heater.
Eligibility Criteria
- Rebates apply to installations of gas and electric boosted solar water heaters and heat pump water heaters
- The dwelling must be a privately owned and occupied residence
- Rebate amount is $500
- Available for new and existing homes
- For existing homes connected to gas, the solar system must be gas boosted
- For existing homes connected to electricity, the solar system can be electric boosted, or be a heat pump
- For new homes with reticulated gas available, the solar system must be gas boosted
- For new homes without reticulated gas available, the solar system can be electric boosted or be a heat pump
- The householder must be a Government concession card holder ie Pensioner, Health care card holder, or Veterans Affairs Gold Card holder
- The solar or heat pump water heater must carry a minimum 5 year warranty on all major components, including frost protection

Payment
- The program is managed and funded by Department of Transport, Energy and Infrastructure, a division of the South Australian Government
- Payment can be made as a point of sales discount, provided by the installer at the time of installation. Alternatively, the rebate can be applied for, and paid by the Department as a cheque. Allow between 4 – 6 weeks for processing and delivery of the rebate
